Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC)
Pre-Conference Agenda

This pre-conference is open to those interested in becoming MTFC sites AND those involved with existing sites. There will be two tracks for the MTFC pre-conference. "Overview of MTFC" is open to those interested in becoming MTFC sites and "Advanced MTFC" is open to existing sites.

TRACK I (Open to those interested in becoming MTFC sites)
Introduction to MTFC
Speakers: Gerard Bouwman and Cynthia Heywood, PhD

8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m.
Overview of the MTFC model
Speaker: Gerard Bouwman
Review of the theory underlying the MTFC model. The results of the research that led to the establishment of the model as an evidence-based approach will be presented. A short overview of 'what it takes' to implement MTFC as well as the principles of practice will be discussed.

10:15 - 11 a.m.
Overview of MTFC for Adolescents and MTFC for Middle Childhood
Speaker: Gerard Bouwman
In this session, general information regarding the operation of these programs will be presented. Staffing, target population, behavioral techniques, role of the MTFC foster parents and other key elements will be reviewed.

11 a.m. - noon
Overview of MTFC for Preschoolers
Speaker: Cynthia Heywood, PhD
In this session, general information regarding the operation of this program for preschool children, ages 3–6, will be presented. Staffing, target population, behavioral techniques, role of the MTFC foster parents and other key elements will be reviewed.

Noon - 1 p.m.
Lunch

1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Certifying your MTFC program - Learn about recent changes!
Speakers: Gerard Bouwman and Theresa Mayne
   • Importance of program fidelity
   • What does it mean to become a certified program?
   • Helping you get there
   • Group discussion

TRACK II (Open to existing MTFC sites)
MTFC for established MTFC programs
Speakers: Rena Gold, MSW; Theresa Mayne; Cynthia Heywood, PhD; and Gerard Bouwman

Advanced MTFC for Adolescents
Speaker: Rena Gold, MSW
Interactive workshop on implementation issues, successes, barriers, solutions and system challenges.

Noon - 1 p.m.
Lunch

1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
MTFC for Middle Childhood
Speaker: Rena Gold, MSW
In this session, specific information regarding the operation of this program for children, ages 7-11, will be presented. Staffing, target population, behavioral techniques, role of the MTFC foster parents and other key elements will be reviewed.

3:15 - 5 p.m.
MTFC for Preschoolers
Speaker: Cynthia Heywood, PhD
In this session, general information regarding the operation of this program for preschool children, ages 3–6, will be presented. Staffing, target population, behavioral techniques, role of the MTFC foster parents and other key elements will be reviewed.

NOTE: Instead of going to the two afternoon sessions listed above, Track II participants may opt to attend the following (same session that Track I participants will be in):
